21st Monthabirthday

Gideon is 21 months old today. But the bigger story is that yesterday he threw up for the first time. And I'm talkin'... it was a doosy.

Disclaimer: I happen to be icked out by vomit. If you are like me in this... you may want to skip a few paragraphs. You can start reading again at the paragraph that begins with "JR".

He first woke up early from his nap because of the vomit. Then, after about 20 min., he threw up ALL over the living room carpet. Instead of making a trail to the bathroom, I let him stand where he was. But then I showed him that if he felt like throwing up again, that he should stand over the toilet.

The next time he vomited I was feeding Naomi a bottle and trying to get G to eat some ice chips. Fortunately, the cup that held the ice chips also caught a good amount of what was coming up. But (HERE'S THE BIG-BOY PART), since I was holding Naomi and feeding her, when he started throwing up, I told him that when he had a break, to go to the toilet. So, he did. He walked all the way to the bathroom by himself, put up the toilet seats and stood over the bowl, waiting for me. (such a big boy!!!)

JR came home as soon as he could and helped out a lot. Gideon threw up once more and was not himself all night. (and that includes the middle of the night)

He's not in top form today, but I haven't had to clean up anything yet today.

On a brighter side... G is really starting to tune into songs and movies. He sings the back-up parts to songs that we listen to in the car. (I'm not sure why he chooses the back-up parts... maybe bop ba's and oo's are more fun... or maybe that's because I sing the back-up parts...) He even quotes "Finding Nemo". He will quote along with the movie and when he thinks of the certain parts he likes. Gideon also has a book that sings several songs that he is learning the words to: Old MacDonald, Rock-a-bye Baby, and Twinkle, Twinkle. And anytime he hears the word "baby" he says it until we acknowledge his brilliance. (You wouldn't believe how many times the word "baby" comes up on American Idol, btw.) :)

Well, since I have had a grand total of 10 hours of sleep over the last two days, I think I will try to sleep since (temporarily) my two children are also sleeping.

Happy Monthabirthday, Gideon. Sorry you are sick.

Poor little guy! I'm so sorry he is so fantastically sick...and that it is something that you are so fantastically grossed-out by. No one wins in a situation like that.

But, as you said, major kudos for Gideon for being so obedient and grown-up by going to the toilet while he was sick! That's so great that he heard, remembered, and listened to you.

Happy monthabirthday, my man! I hope your next one is a heck of a lot better.

I'm laughing right now. I know, I know, it's not funny to you! But, I have a crib full of vomit just waiting for me to clean it up...right now! Yes, you read correctly--I have left the vomit in the crib and I am blogging instead. :) I will clean it up as soon as the current load of laundry is finished, you see. The one thing even more fun than one sick child is TWO, Daisha, My Friend. Oh yes, your life will never be the same again. He, he. Seriously, I really am sorry he is sick. I do hope he gets better really soon and that Naomi does not get it, too. :)

Ok, didn't know you were pregnant. She's beautiful! And Gideon is so cute and has gotten so big! I haven't experienced the whole vomiting child episode, yet. I'm sure it's coming, but hopefully not too soon. We've been fortune to only have a cold so far! So glad I found your blog, so now I can keep up!

Poor Guy! I know how hard it is to see your baby sick...no matter how old they are. It sounds like he was a trooper though. Typical Gideon being a good, big boy even when he feels terrible. Hope you all are well again!!
