My little boy...

I haven't really given an update on Gideon's development in a while. (this is my second attempt to post this information today... let's hope this one works)

SLEEPING: Since Sept. 1, Gideon has slept through the night every night. He has his last meal anywhere from 8:45-9:30, chills with me a few more minutes, and then he gets kisses from JR and me before being put in his crib. IF he cries, it doesn't last longer than 20 min. (and those cries are his "hey, guys" cries) He will then wake up between 7 and 7:30, smile for several minutes to greet the morning and then wants breakfast. The timing works out pretty well because that's usually when JR is getting ready in the mornings, so we are able to ring in the day together.

And sleeping through the night has not really disruppted his napping schedule. It DID change WHEN, but not how long. After being awake for 1-2 hours in the morning, he usually takes a 3 hr. nap. He will also take a fairly long afternoon nap if I'm not out and about. So at some point after lunch he takes another nap for at least an hour or more.

I am not complaining about Gideon's love of sleep. (he gets that from both his parents)

EATING: Gideon is still breast and bottle-feeding. He easily switches back and forth depending on what is easiest for me. (how nice of him, right?) He eats fairly often, but is still a skinny kid.

PLAYING: Gideon LOVES to play with his daddy. He loves doing the "bum dance", being a rocket-ship, and practicing standing. "If You're Happy and You Know It" is his favorite song right now. We don't sing it the traditional way. ;)

Sitting up by himself is the game that Gideon wants to play most. He has never liked leaning (like against a couch cushion), so now, he attempts to sit more up-right. However, this usually means that he ends up toppeling over and wriggling.

He is able to turn on either side from his front as well as his back. However, he has yet to make it all the way over. But I have a feeling that rolling over is right around the corner.

Having no interest in his toys, Gideon keeps himself amused by chewing on his fists. He will only reach for his pacifier, his burp-cloth, and the remote. On the up-side, though, he is able to wipe the drool off of his own chin now. :)

And when we are in the car, I can look back in my handy car-seat mirror and see him playing with the baseball that keeps his pacifier attached to him. (but that doesn't count as a toy)

EDUCATION: Last week Gideon completed a correspondence class on quantum physics. Ok, so it's coming next week...
For real, though... Gideon loves to be read to. When we were out shopping for JR's birthday gifts, I read G Dr. Suess's "The Foot Book". He was enthralled. When the book ended, he let me know that I needed to read it again. And then, after reading the book twice, Gideon reached out to hold the book. I almost bought it, but it was the only one they had and it looked like it had already been chewed by another kid.

And in the nursery at church, he always gets complimented for how well he pays attention to the story. (I'm so proud.)

COMMUNICATION: Gideon talks more and more every day. He tries to mimick conversational rythems and tones. He is getting to where he can "talk" instead of crying for what he wants.

But the best thing is his laugh. Sometimes he even laughs on command. His favorite place to laugh is the bathroom (don't ask me why). The other day we took a video of him laughing at his reflection. And yesterday he laughed for the first 3 min. of his bath. SO cute, people!

And on that note, I'll leave you with this picture. (I got him this hat the other day.)

Happy Weekend!

P.S. I JUST went in to check on him. Before I posted, he was in his crib and his pacifier was in the far corner. But now, his little rear end is in the air and his pacifier is in his mouth!!! (This is very good news for me.)
