In the comment section of the previous blog, we are starting to get some flack for adopting the Seminoles as our college team. Here are some points I would like to bring up...
1. JR nor I went to a VA school. (Sorry, Brent, we can't really be Hokies just because our brother-in-law is.)
2. I have ALWAYS routed against the Florida Gators due to the fact that they are in the SEC and play the Kentucky Wildcats. Need I remind anyone that I spent some formative years of my life in Lexington, KY?
3. As a state employee, JR will be allowed to take 6 hrs. a semester for FREE at FSU, thereby getting a FREE masters degree. (If that doesn't inspire some school loyalty, I don't know what will.)
But, please, don't freak out and think that we have already gone overboard in support of the Florida Seminoles. We have no "Garnet and Gold". Gideon doesn't own any team stuff. At least 2/3 of our family doesn't know the name of a single player on the team (me and Gideon).
So for those of you out there who draw the line of friendship at team sports, please do not cross us off your list just yet. :) You can wait til we hit the annoying level of turning off our phones during games, wearing garnet and gold exclusively, carrying spears and feathers around as we ride our horses to the season ticket seats that we will have sold Gideon to get... (you get the idea)
We will never get to THAT level.
And now I have said my piece.

i'm sure living there will influence you some... and i wouldn't be surprised if you do start wearing garnet and gold (how gay are those colors btw). :) i have adopted the hokies as my team, so i can't talk that much, but i do hate the 'noles (they jumped from the big east to the acc along with the hokies), so i have to say my piece as well. at least you all get to experience the football college experience... it's so much fun! i am really going to miss going to blacksburg for our annual virginia tech game.
go hokies!
You guys root for whomever you wish. Granted, you will have more ground to stand on once JR gets his degree plus the possiblity that Gideon might be an alum someday as well. Everyone will got over it!!! :o)

Well as one of JR and Daisha's new friends here in Tallahassee, a long time 'Nole, and future influence and "fellow spoiler" of young Gideon, I couldn't hold my tongue. I know I'm stepping on eggshells here because none of you know me (yet) so I hope that you take my comments in the loving way that they are meant. First, FSU did NOT leave the Big East (Miami and VT did). FSU was independent in football and Metro Conference in basketball. Second, if the garnet and gold are a horrible combination, the garnet and orange of VT can't be far off. BTW, I love VT since my dad was a 3 sport athlete there and I've been to Blacksburg and the stadium. Come on down Keli and see that us Seminoles aren't all bad.

yeah I know, I gave you major flack, but come on, what kind of fan would I be if I didn't? I guess I get the whole "can't root for the Gators because they're in the SEC" thing, but still, I had to try. :). At least you guys don't have a divided house, my sister's boyfriend is a huge nole fan...good thing he's cute and smart! lol
my bad on the big east thing... i got them confused with that other florida team. they are all the same to me. ;)
virginia tech colors are MAROON and ORANGE (the colors of fall). beautiful.
nothing but some good, fun rubbing here. my dislike for fa state goes way back. i'm sure they're not that bad, but i wouldn't be a hokie fan if i didn't rub on them every now and then. :)
hokie wife since 10/5/02 ;) (and fan as a girlfriend and fiancee before that!)
All of this fun bantering reminds me of the 1960's when the Texas/Oklahoma rivalry was at its best. The Darroll (sp) Royal the Texas coach and Bud Wilkerson (the Oklahoma coach) were always battling for the #1 team in the nation. The wishboad T was in its early stages. There were always phrases of the time that went around about Sooners (sooner be dead) and "Hook'em Horns" (rather be hooked on whatever fit your mood).
Just a little history. Probably to far back for anybody here to remember.
So it is good intened fun for sure.

ah... a very common question. a "hokie" is really just a virginia tech fan. the teams used to be called the gobblers, which is why the turkey is the mascot. believe it or not, there is a website that goes into it all...

Virginia Tech Turkeys. That is too funny. More like Virginia Tech DORKS! hehehe
The real question is... Will FSU beat Troy on Saturday here in Tallahassee? LOL
All I have to say is, "Are you ready for some football?"... NFL starting tonight at 8:30pm (or, 2:30am for the Germany Turkey-lovers).
