JR couldn't believe that it's only been 4 years since he asked me to be his wife, when I reminded him this morning while making breakfast. Most times, it seems like we've been together a life-time already. (Not to say we aren't looking forward to the actual life-time we are currently spending together.)
4 years ago I sat on my couch in the midst of my put-it-off-til-the-last-possible-moment pile of laundry in my old black sweat-pants and an oversized tie-dyed t-shirt. My uncontrolled hair grew with every molecule of water that evaporated out of it. And it was like this, that JR asked me to be his one-and-only woman for life.
This image is comforting to me now that I'm a stay-at-home mom who looks like that most days. He CHOSE me like that. He knew what he was getting. :)
But seriously, I cannot imagine life any other way. I thank God that He blessed me with JR (and our children).
2 years ago, I put up some pictures of our Engagement Day. And so as not to repeat myself in the blogosphere, I'll let you link to them if you are curious.
And 2 notes about Gideon:
2 nights ago we had "Brinner" (aka: Breakfast for Dinner). When Gideon had finished his, he said, "Thank you, Momma! Thank you pancakes!" Then he proceeded to clear off the table. He took the syrup and powdered sugar and put them away. He put his plate in the sink and then came and got my plate! JR and I just watched him in stunne silence. (check his age on my lily-pie tracker, people: 2 yrs., 8 mon., 4 weeks)
And he's been having trouble with "monsters" lately. We pray about it. He sings, "God is Bigger Than the Boogie-Man", and he sleeps with a sword. Yes, folks, he sleeps with a sword.
Well, last night at 4 am, Gideon comes into our room weilding his sword and in a scared little voice said, "Daddy, turn light on." (We're talking, the sword was drawn and at the ready. My little warrior was ready to battle the monsters in his room and the hallway so he could get to his daddy. (aren't you melting inside just a little bit?)
And some Naomi notes:
Last night for dinner we were over at the Mosiers. Well, Madison got out her princess dress-up clothes and Naomi got in on the action. She was ADORABLE in her first princess costume. Madison graciously gave it to Naomi as a gift. N strutted around and beamed a huge smile at whoever called her a "Pretty Princess". She is so completely girly.
And her language connection skills are getting better by the day. Naomi waves and says "bye bye" clear as a bell. Then she will blow kisses. And she does this whenever anyone moves toward the door. She's still obsessed with shoes, but was able to hand her matching shoe to her grandma the other day while getting ready. Attempts at saying "diaper" are coming along. And her quacking like a duck in the bathtub cracks me up every time.
Ok, enough about the kids... it's the anniversary of our engagement, not a post about the kids. :)

Oh, and the kids and I will be in Searcy this coming week. So I should be posting pictures again soon.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Reactions:
I ran across this yesterday. (This is all 3 acts... so it runs about 43 min.) Oh, how I wish there were more things out there in the entertainment world like this. And... man! I wish I could hang out with these funny, creative people when they are bored with a writer's strike. :)
Enjoy. (JR and I did.)

Who knew?

Lesson learned:
No matter how messy a die-cast car gets with marshmallow goo, don't wash it in the dishwasher.
The paint melts and peels off. So do the cool license plate stickers.
(Boy, I hope Gideon doesn't mind that his once-cool truck now looks like one of those trucks parked in the front yard of one of those shacks along Hwy 64 from Searcy to Memphis.)
And, just to let the blogging world know, I hand-washed the car. JR was the one to put it in the "car wash".

"I'm not a big kid. I'm a Great Man!!!"
Reactions:
I've been meaning to get some of these stories on the blog for a while, but I've been lazy and forgetful. (How's that for being honest?) :)
Gideon is potty-trained. It's weird to think that it is actually the reality. We started hard-core working on it when we got over the jet-lag from our trip to Germany. And sometime these past two weeks, it's happened.
The other day I was telling him how proud I was that he was a big kid and he matter-of-factly stated, "I'm not a big kid. I'm a Great Man!!!"
So there you have it.
While we were potty-training, he earned stickers that went around a "game-board" (for lack of a better term) and everytime he got to specific spots he'd get a gift. Well... now he has taken to giving me "surprises" when I go to the bathroom. He tells me how proud he is of me and has me shut my eyes. Then he tells me to open them and hands me whatever he has seen laying around.
He also has a prescribed thing he says to me when I do my body test on the Wii Fit.
Gideon: Way to go, Momma! Good job! 2 pounds!
So today, when he did his body test he told me:
Gideon: Momma, say "Way to go, Gieon (his way of saying his name). 2 pounds!"
(and of course, I followed directions)
He is crazy about puzzles these days. The puzzles he works on are anywhere from 24 pieces to 60. He dumps them out of the box (which Naomi proceeds to steal) and gets to work. And when we let him work on puzzles at night after we send him off to his bedroom, he will work for HOURS. It's really neat to see the way his brain works and how focused he can be.
Lately he has been getting mini-marshmallows for completing his dinner. But instead of eating all of them, he reserves 2. One is "Daddy" and the other is "Gieon". They go on great adventures in one of his toy trucks. They go to church and work. (although this afternoon, Kleenexs took the place of the marshmallows... and Gideon informed me, "Ahshoos (tissues) are persons!")
Gideon has taken to spontaneously pray for things, mainly during our meal, but also at other times during the day. For a while his prayers went like this:
Dear God, thank you for my food and thank you for my tummy. In Jesus name, Amen.
But lately he's been throwing in other things. When Anne was here over Valentine's Day, Gideon lead the Brunch prayer:
Dear God, thank you for my food. Thank you for Daddy and Anne (pause) and Nanomi (this is how he pronounces his sister's name)... (pause) and Momma and me. Thank you food. In Jesus name, Amen.
At dinner last night he thanked God for our neighbor, Patrick, and Patrick's cop-car. And at Chick-fil-A for lunch today he thanked God for "the restaurant."
It is so precious to hear him thank God for everything. He is a thankful child to begin with, but that he knows that "every good and perfect gift" comes, ultimately, from God is a reminder to me.
And on to Naomi...
She is getting 3 teeth in currently to bring her grand total of teeth up to 8. Teething with her isn't TOO bad, but she has been a little restless at night.
Every day she tries new things. And right now, she tends to be a little clepto. She steals anything and FAST.
Gideon is still wanting her to play with him. And that's a great blessing, but she's starting to wear out her welcome b/c she keeps taking his cars out of the lines he's putting them in.
I've never seen a kid like Naomi. She was never one for rolling over much... she went straight to crawling and then jetted off to walking. But most of the time, you will find her laying on her back, rolling from side to side while looking at a book, or talking to a doll. It makes her look like she's a lot older than she is.
She LOVES looking at herself. And she has figured out that there are mirrors if she pulls up on my bathroom counters.
Apparently standing on a book that is all of 1/2 inch thick is Naomi's equivilant of climbing Mount Everest. She looks so proud when she climbs up on it and has a "I conquored the world!" look on her face.
No sippy cup I hand her is ever as wanted as the cup I hand Gideon. She will move heaven and earth to get G's cup and leave hers behind. (which is why I've been following both around with "snot cloths" for the past two days)
And despite her growth stats that I posted earlier... apparently she doesn't think I'm feeding her enough. If I don't clean up EVERY morsel of food from a meal, she comes back around for "seconds". When given the choice between drowing or pausing in her drinking of chocolate milk (barely a drop of choc. for those of you out there who are worried), Naomi will ALWAYS choose to continue drinking despite the fact that she is coughing and choking. But most amazing is how she cries when some food she is enjoying is gone.
In the whole time that Anne was with us, Naomi cried most when the ice cream she was sharing with me was gone. It took about 5 min. to get her to stop WAILING. (and this girl is LOUD) We just tell her she's being ridiculous and she needs to get over it. :)
These kids crack me up. And some days I feel like I'm about to crack... but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm the mother of two toddlers.

Naomi's One Year Check-up Stats
Reactions:
Here are Naomi's Stats:
Height: 31" (95%)
Weight: 26lbs. 4oz (>97%)
Head: 46.9 cm (92%)
Her new thing this week is to nod her head in agreement. The first time I noticed her doing it, she was smushing her new doll. When I asked her if that's what she was doing, her head bobbed up and down in a definitive nod. It was adorable.
And she's growing her fifth tooth. (one on the bottom front) Strangely enough, she's teething on almost the exact same schedule that Gideon teethed on.

My Baby Girl is One!
Reactions:

One year ago today, I held my baby girl for the first time. We snuggled all night long, just the two of us (since JR went home with Gideon). I can't believe how fast this year went by.

Conversation with Gideon
Reactions:
The past few months, Gideon has been commenting on communion as we pass the emblems.
A few months ago, I told him that the bread represents Jesus' body and the juice represents Jesus' blood. So, for the past few weeks, that's what he tells me when they are passed around.
Today the conversation went like this:
Gideon: That's Jesus' body.
Me: Yes. It is.
Gideon: Can I have some?
Me: When you are old enough, your daddy and I pray that you decide to follow Jesus, are baptized, and make him Lord of your life. Then you can share some of his Body.
Gideon: Like Daddy?
Me: Yes. Like Daddy.
Gideon: Yeah! (pause) Like you?
Me: Uh-huh.
Gideon: Like "Nanna"?
Me: Yup.
Gideon: Like Madison?
Me: Well, her mommy and daddy pray that she makes the choice to live for Jesus too. We pray for all of you: You, Naomi, Madison, and Hudson, that you give your lives to Jesus.
Gideon: (smiling) OH, ok.
I guess I could have just told him to be quiet... that people were trying to concentrate on what Jesus did for them... but somehow, I think that our conversation didn't bother anyone.
